Finally hit the 21st century – only twelve years late!

February 10, 2012

Welcome to my assorted and, no doubt, intermittent thoughts and views, both benign and strident, on (mainly) horticultural issues, but also spreading into the dangerous realms of weather and – wait for it – politics!

First things first, to introduce myself – I am Chris, the co-owner of High Garden Nurseries, set on the Western side of the Exe Estuary in the beautiful countryside in the parish of Kenton. I have lived here for six years with my family. In this time, we have created, on a 4.5 acre site, a garden and a retail  plant nursery. The garden and the nursery are open each week from Tuesday to Friday, 9 – 5 and if you are a keen plantsman/gardener, I’m sure you would find a visit much to your interest. In the future, I hope to add more photos of the nursery and garden as well as topical comments.

So – after much pressure from family and customers alike, I have this week finally succummed to the demands of the modern age and signed up to accept card payments on the nursery as well as starting this blog! I feel an urgent need of a lie down and a read of a good P.G Wodehouse!

As I am quite a slow typist, thats enough for now!

This is the nursery to go too for unbiased advice, good sized and well looked after plants, at reasonable prices. Nearly all the stock is grown on site, and not sold until Chris is 100% happy with what he is selling.
Its the best Nursery by far in Devon, no hype, just good quality plants and free professional advice

    Rose Festival and Garden Fair
    Cadhay
    Ottery St Mary, Devon
    Monday 27 May 2013

On Monday 27 May 2013 we are holding a Rose Festival and Garden Fair in the magnificent grounds of Cadhay, an Elizabethan manor house near Ottery St Mary, Devon, in aid of Hospiscare.
We would like to attract a wide variety of exhibitors including:
    • Rose specialists and growers
    • Rare and specialist alpines and plants
    • Grasses, bulbs and shrubs
    • Aquatic plants
    • Willow and garden sculptures
    • Pots, tubs and small items of garden furniture
    • Garden gloves, tools and other gardening accessories
    • Crafts and local produce
The Rose Festival will be in the formal gardens at Cadhay and pitches will be sited around the stew-ponds and the walled pond garden. The Garden Fair will be sited in a field adjacent to the main driveway.
Two pitch sizes will be available: 3 x 3m at £30 and 3 x 6m at £50. Further details and a plan of the site will be sent out in September.
This is a major fundraising event that will be widely advertised in the media. Details will also be included in Hospiscare’s Open Garden booklet which now has a circulation of over 12000. Hospiscare is now caring for approximately 700 people at any time in Exeter, east and mid-Devon and all the proceeds from the event will go to funding the palliative care nurses caring for our patients. I hope you will be able to support us.
If you would like further information or would like to book a pitch please email me on lizneill@aol.com or telephone 01392 873431 indicating whether you wish to be in the Rose Festival or the Garden Fair, and I will send you a booking form.
